63 Serendipity Place; Thursday Afternoon [05/24].
Amaya knew Kanan'd be coming over later that day to pick out a temporary weapon, and she'd already gone through most of them and deemed them in pretty tip-top shape, but after all that soft work yesterday, she definitely needed to get her hands on something hard. Easy enough! It was a nice day, and she never minded an opportunity to roll out the Crumbler and work on her, giving her a few pats of apology that she hadn't had much to do since coming to the island.
"One of these days," she assured it, "just you wait."
In the meantime, then, she could tighten her screws, sharpen her blades, check the tension in her pulleys and levers, grease up her gears, maybe change the treads on her wheels, clean up her pipes, make 'em all shiny and nice. Not a bad way to whittle away some time while you were waiting for someone, although it wound up just making Amaya wonder if anyone would really even miss a few trees if they'd gone missing from the preserve...

"Good to see you did, too," Kanan replied, grinning a little. The way she was talking about that thing, all pride and an anxiousness to show it off... he knew what that felt like. He'd been the same way, when he'd made his lightsaber. "I guess there's only so much trouble people can get in with rope and knots. The gremlins are another story."

Another being, of course, the ubiquitous wizard.
"But enough about that," she brushed her hands on her skirt a bit, then quirked her head toward the house, "let's get you that weapon. I'm interested to see what you end up picking out of the crowd, might even give me a few ideas what to do once my forge is up."

"I'll admit, there's something really fun about a nice wispy rapier or foil, but nothing quite satisfies like hammering out a nice big broadsword, too. But we'll see what suits you best; I always find people surprise themselves, coming in with one thing in mind and then fallin' in love with something completely different once they got their hands on it."
She opened the door and gestured Kanan in. "Main room's just up the stairs, first one to the left. Don't mind the mess."
Considering that the place was almost entirely spartan with the exception of a few machines and tool kits on tables or counters, 'mess' wasn't exactly the word to describe it. More like simply 'slightly domesticated workshop.'
Which lead into a Full On Armory once he made it up those stairs and to the left. Workstation in the middle, a well-used and battered and tested wooden table, and nearly every inch of wall covered in a display of some sort of weapon: knives, swords, axes, bows, hammers, flails. You named it, there was probably some sort of variant up there, most of them seeming to have a little bit of a penchant for extra spikes and horns and other pointy things sticking out of them. They all looked sturdy, too, lovingly crafted and made, if a little battered here and there from use. None of them looked entirely shiny and new, though a few more so than others. Amaya peeked in before following Kanan in, that pride that had lingered over the Crumbler coming back in full force.
"Have a look around, take your time, and remember that's a few more in another room, too, if nothing here strikes you. These are probably the better ones, though, and more of what you're looking for. Other room's mostly tools over weapons, and a lot more basic, if you're not into any extra accouterments or frills."
Pointy sharp things could totally be considered frills.

Fancy Jedi boy.
"This is a hell of an impressive collection. You made all of these?"

Even if the Jedi were basically wizard-monks.
"And I don't blame you for laughing. A weapon is only part of what makes a knight. It's not worth much if you can't back that up with skill."
A knight, or warrior, or whatever. Look. He would've been a knight. He was allowed to cling to that one.

She looked around again, her expression going a little nostalgic, a little eager. Oh, it was going to be so nice to work again...
"Seeing anything that catches your eyes yet?" she prompted. "Or did you need help figuring out what to go for?"

Which he hoped didn't sound as crazy as he suspected it might. He looked at the selection of swords again, and then nodded.
"It is for training," he added. "The sword my student brought home is sort of... intricate, especially for a broadsword. There's a lot of ornamental detail in the cross-guard, and it flares out again at the point. That's not strictly my style. I prefer function over fashion, so to speak. But it's a starting point."

But she said it in a thoughtful way, like she was just using the words to help fill in the gaps in her own consideration of the arsenal.
"Sounds almost like a leaf-blade. Well, and if you want function," she made a move to pull a sword from a rack, a very simple looking thing compared to some of the more spiky accents that was clearly a part of her favored style; she turned it in her hands to offer the handle out for Kanan to take, "can't go wrong with something really basic, to the point. It's a little plainer than what I usually do, but this piece was done so I could really focus on the leaf-blade itself. I've been meanin' to alter it, but just haven't gotten around to it yet, so maybe it was just waiting until you were done with it."

He reached to take the sword, checking again for the weight and the balance. It had some decent heft to it, seemed to sit comfortably in his hand. After a moment of consideration, he slid into the opening stance of one of his forms, holding it up one-handed with little effort before bringing it back down again and grasping the hilt with both hands instead, slipping into the opening stance for a different lightsaber form entirely.
"It'll be an adjustment," he mused, straightening up and turning it this way and that, considering the craftsmanship in the blade itself, "but... you know, I like this? I think this will do nicely until I can commission something a little more personalized."

So, say, it was swishy!
"I know a few different forms, but the one I've used the most in battle is made up of smaller, faster movements. This is going to be an adjustment. But one I'm looking forward to."
no subject
Granted, that one wasn't as impressive since she'd only just started using it for the spill-over, but still!

"I'll keep that in mind, but this one should do the trick in the meantime," Kanan mused. "I'll touch base and tell you how it's going at the next movie class or something, how's that sound?"
He'd definitely be using it before then, after all.
