"I will give them this much," said Amaya, pushing herself up from where she'd been giving the locks on Rosa's door a good luck, "that's some incredibly clean work there. That's the work of someone who plans to get right back to them and make sure no one's any wiser about it. An easy enough fix, but I'm going to guess you want something a little complex for next time."

Rosa, leaning on the wall of the hallway, just looked at her.

"Not that there will be a next time, of course," Amaya amended with an assuring lift of her hand, "especially not with what I can do with these. Just actually worked on a bookshelf with some good hidden traps in it, I can apply some of the same concepts here."

"A bookcase?"

And Amaya grinned. "A word to the wise," she said. "Definitely ask before borrowing any books from your new neighbor down the hall. But this won't take long. If I get started now, I'll probably have most of it done in time for that party tomorrow."

Rosa nodded, took a sip from her mug of coffee. "Just do what you need to do."

"Aye-aye, Detective," said Amaya with a little salute before crouching back down for her tools. And offering up an almost apologetic smile. "Quite a welcome back, huh?"

Rosa just snorted, marveling slightly that she was even bothering getting new locks in the first place.

"They broke into your apartment? That's awful."

She meant it.

"Let me know if you need any help."

Oh. Cool. Pity. Totally a thing Rosa loved and wanted!

"I'll keep that in mind," she said, so dry that not even the sip of coffee she took after could quench it.

"It was just an offer," Lucille said. "Not a questioning of your ability to fend for yourself."

"Don't mind her, Lucille," said Amaya, who didn't even need to look up from her work to see the hard, unimpressed look that a comment like that would have earned her from Rosa. "She refuses to accept help from just about anyone."

And, yes, she realized the irony of the statement being said while she was actively helping Rosa, which is why Amaya also smirked a little as Rosa's hard, unimpressed look shifted her way.

"I won't interfere then," Lucille said, turning to leave. "Oh, and please stop by for tea sometime."

She was sure that Rosa would never take her up on that, so it felt safe to invite her.

And the idea of tea right now.was particularly odious to Rosa at the moment, so she really couldn't help making a face and a small "ugh" sound.

But it wasn't anything persomal, Hot Goth Neighbor.
